Shrek returns to cinemas next month to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iconic animated film. On the 18th. May 2001, Shrek was an instant hit on the big screen and quickly established itself as one of the most popular animated films of all time. To celebrate, Fathom Events is bringing back the hit film for three nights at the end of April. Tickets go on sale on the 12th. March.

This priceless animated film has captivated generations and is a great cinema day for the whole family.

Viewers watching the return of Shrek will also be treated to DreamWorks Animation’s critically acclaimed short film To: Gerard and the trailer for Spirit Untamed Studios’ upcoming animated film, which comes out on the 4th. June will have the first one.
Shrek was directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicki Jenson and written by Ted Elliot, Terry Rossio, Joe Stillman and Roger S. H. Schulman. Originally, Chris Farley was to play the ogre. When Chris Farley died during production, the film was reworked and Mike Myers took over as the new voice of Shrek. Eddie Murphy played the donkey, Cameron Diaz played Princess Fiona and John Lithgow played Lord Farquaad.
The official report reads as follows: Shrek, the ogre with the big heart, embarks on a daring quest to rescue the feisty princess Fiona, who luckily manages to save herself with the help of her beloved noisy donkey. So he tries to free his beloved swamp from vanity, intrigue and the surprisingly small Lord Farquaad. But what begins as a rescue mission becomes an epic tale of love and friendship that will last for centuries.
Upon its release, Shrek became the first film to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. It was also nominated for best adapted screenplay. Last year, Shrek was selected by the Library of Congress for inclusion in the National Film Registry. It is the first DreamWorks animated film and the first non-Disney animated film to receive this unique award.
Shrek also immortalized the Smash Mouth All Star song after it was used in the opening credits. The use of the song gave the band immense popularity at the time. In recent years, the song has become a popular meme on the internet due to its association with Shrek. In fact, it became one of the most popular rock songs in the United States between 2017 and 2020.
Fathom Events will present Shrek on the 25th, 28th and 29th. April in the cinema. This will be followed by the release of Shrek 20th Anniversary Home Video, which includes a 4K copy of the film to be released on the 11th. May has been published.
