Norwegian Cruise Line Unveils Details of the New Norwegian Prima

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has launched the world’s first Norwegian-designed cruise ship and the first to carry the Prima concept name. The Norwegian-designed ship “Prima” will join the company’s fleet in summer 2013 and will bring new innovations in technology and comfort to the ocean-going experience.

Cruise ships can be intimidating—especially the ones that boast the words “Norwegian” and “prima” in their title. But the Norwegian Cruise Line’s latest ship, the Norwegian Prima, is not one of these ships. The Prima, which is due to be delivered in December, started life as the Norwegian Joy, which was the second-largest ship in the fleet at the time of its launch in 2007. The 11-story ship was completed in 2009, and was the first Norwegian ship to feature the brand’s state-of-the-art Crystal Wind design.

Norwegian Cruise Line has revealed the design details of the new Norwegian Prima, the first of six new ships in the new Prima-class (formerly the Leonardo project). Tip: Norwegian Prima cruises will begin in the summer of 2022, and those voyages went on sale this week. In terms of dimensions, the Norwegian Prima will be 965 feet long, have a gross tonnage of 142,500 and seat 3,215 passengers in double occupancy. The Prima-class, the first new series of ships for Norwegian in more than a decade, will offer more open spaces and new experiences. Innovation Rooms

Sommer noted that Norwegian Prima embodies everything the company’s customers love and raises the bar, as this new class of ship is designed to put the customer first. Norwegian says the new ship will have the best staff-to-room ratio of any new cruise ship in the modern and premium segment. The Norwegian Prima, built by Fincantieri in Marghera, Italy, will feature a striking hull design by Italian graffiti artist Manuel Di Rita, known as Peeta. For the first time on a Norwegian ship, the hypnotic hull paint extends to the superstructure of the ship’s bow. Architects involved in the design of Norwegian Prima include Italian designer Piero Lissoni and the powerful architectural firms Rockwell Group, SMC Design, Tillberg Design of Sweden, YSA DESIGN and Miami-based Studio DADO, which designed the restaurants, cabins and public areas. The name Prima, which means first in Italian, fits perfectly with our tradition of industry firsts and is a fitting tribute to our new Italian shipbuilding partners, Fincantieri, Sommer added. Design highlights

Norwegian Prima will offer the largest variety of suites available at sea: 13 suites. The ship will also have the largest three-bedroom suites of any new cruise ship. Norwegian adds that the ship will have the largest inside cabins, ocean view cabins and balconies, as well as the largest bathrooms and showers for the standard cabin categories. Additionally, Norwegian Prima will offer the most open deck space of any new cruise ship, including more total pool space, than any other ship in the NCL fleet. The new ship will feature several infinity pools and extensive outdoor walking paths.

Larger, Improved Port

Haven by Norwegian, an ultra-premium ship-to-ship concept, will feature eight decks of suites and public spaces. Norwegian Prima’s exclusive keycard access package also includes several new features. For the first time, the cruise line has moved the 107 Haven Suites to the back of the ship, near private elevators reserved for Haven guests. These elevators lead directly to the public areas of The Haven on decks 16 and 17. Haven’s design has also been rethought, making the resort more open to the sea than ever before. For the first time, all public spaces at The Haven will overlook the sea. Norwegian Prima’s Haven Yard will be transformed into a spacious Haven Sun Deck with a new infinity pool overlooking the ship. The new outdoor spa will have a sauna with glass walls and a cold room. All public areas and suites at The Haven were designed by Piero Lissoni.

Great Embankment, new food pavilion

Norwegian has doubled the size of The Waterfront and added more experiences and dining options, including a new Ocean Boulevard. On deck eight, a 44,000 square foot boulevard will surround the entire deck. One of the new attractions on Ocean Boulevard will be Indulge Food Hall, Norway’s first upscale outdoor market, with indoor and outdoor seating. Guests can order a variety of dishes from the menu of different culinary establishments. as well as a combination of indoor and outdoor seating. The 11 Food Hall locations include favorites like Coco’s, Q Texas Smokehouse and Starbucks, as well as these new establishments:

• The Seaside Rotisserie, which offers a wide range of spit-roasted dishes.
• Nudls, a shop with noodle dishes from all over the world, from Italian to Thai cuisine.
• Tamara, who cooks classic Indian dishes and many vegetarian options.
• The Latin Quarter serves classic Latin dishes with a twist.
• Tapas food truck prepares gourmet street food Spanish style
• Garden Kitchen, where guests can order custom salads with more than two dozen ingredients to choose from.
• Just Desserts, featuring classic desserts like pies and cakes.
• Simply Ice Cream, featuring customer favorites and other decadent creations.

In addition to the culinary offerings on Norwegian Prima Ocean Boulevard, the venue will feature indoor and outdoor restaurants Onda By Scarpetta, Los Lobos and The Local Bar & Grill. Other new additions to the brand on Ocean Boulevard include The Concourse, an outdoor sculpture garden featuring an art wall by artist David Harber and six mythologically-themed installations designed by Alexander Krivosheyev. Seven sculptures worth more than $2 million will create stunning effects that will change as the sun sets. Guests will be able to relax at Infinity Beach, which will offer two infinity pools, one on each side of the ship and close to the ocean surface. The Oceanwalk’s two new glass bridges give visitors the feeling of walking in the air above the water. La Terraza, the open-air lounge, will be a picturesque retreat overlooking the ocean.

New roads

From 17. August 2022 to 13. September 2022, Norwegian Prima will operate a series of eight-day flights from Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Copenhagen in Denmark, with customers visiting Northern Europe, the Norwegian Fjords and the Baltic region.
