Werewolves Within, a new horror comedy, released its first trailer on Friday, July 20, and so far it is looking pretty good. The movie follows a group of friends who become prey to a new form of human predator in the woods near their college. They survive by learning how to fight back with a plethora of weapons. The trailer is serious in tone but with a few laughs.

A new trailer and poster for director Josh Reuben’s upcoming horror comedy Werewolves Inside showcase the horror and light-hearted antics that will take place in IFC Films’ adaptation of the video game of the same name. In Werewolves Within, Veep and Tomorrow War star Sam Richardson as Finn discovers a mysterious killer terrorizing the residents of a small snow town. A new park ranger must then discover who – or what – is hiding among them in this hilarious horror film. There is no prize for guessing what it is.

I grew up in the same town where we shot Werewolves Inside, director Josh Reuben said in a statement, giving an insight into the film’s inspiration. As a kid, I used to scare myself, making up stories about monsters, running through the woods under the delusion that I was Chief Brody, fighting creatures in the woods (I loved Jaws – in short, I loved horror). That home experience, where the neighbors know what you’re doing (whether you want them to or not), is what makes Werewolves so personal in so many ways. But as much as I love horror movies, nothing scares me more than people. And as much as this film is a tribute to my love of Hot Fuzz, the Coen brothers and arachnophobia, it’s also about the monster in all of us.
Based on the 2016 multiplayer VR game of the same name, developed by Red Storm Entertainment and published by Ubisoft, the game begins after a pipeline project ignites controversy in the small town of Beaverfield and a snowstorm brings residents together at a local inn. Newly arrived forest ranger FINN (Sam Richardson) and postmistress SESILY (Milana Weintrub) must try to keep the peace and find out the truth about a mysterious creature that is beginning to terrorize the community.
Like many video game adaptations before it, the film version of Werewolves Within deviates a bit from the source material. The video game from Red Storm Entertainment is set in a medieval fantasy town that is attacked by a werewolf. Players must guess which of the townspeople is the werewolf disguised as a gangster. The film will undoubtedly feature many twists and turns reminiscent of video game inspiration, and reveal Reuben’s mysterious theme of the monster within us all.
Werewolves Within will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June 2021. The movie comes out on the 25th. June 2021 in limited edition and on 2. July 2021 released by IFC Films on video on demand.As horror-lovers (and horror-lovers specifically) know, the movies are the best part of the horror genre: the build-up, the scares, the characters.
