Motorola starts the year 2021 with a range of affordable mid-range smartphones: Moto G Play, Moto G Power, Moto G Stylus and Motorola One 5G Ace. All four are now available for pre-order:
We spent just over two days with all four devices to see if these cheap phones deserve your attention.
Motorola has played an important role in the history of 5G here in the United States, and the company plans to continue to do so with the One 5G Ace. At just $399.99, it is one of the most affordable smartphones with 5G support.
For the price, that’s a lot of phone calls. The 6.7-inch FHD+ Max Vision display is robust for everyday use (and maybe even light games) with accurate colour reproduction. But his lack of charisma won’t quite attract your attention like Pixel 4a 5G and TCL 10 5G. The screen is quite close to the edges, except at the bottom where the chin is noticeably thick.
As with the previous Moto smartphones, there is a notch at the top of the screen. It’s not the smallest, but it’s not boring either. In the hole is a 16-megapixel lens. The One 5G Ace has a 48-megapixel main lens, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2-megapixel macro lens. We weren’t impressed by the macro performance of the previous Motorola phones – and it really is a niche feature. This 48-megapixel lens shoots quadruple images at 12 megapixels as standard. These pixels are essentially combined to create a more detailed 12-megapixel image.
Like most cheap phones, the One Ace 5G falls in the middle of the road with a picture. The image processing time can take a second or two, but the color surprises us with the performance of the main lens. The baking technology has made it possible to preserve many details, especially when zooming in digitally, without affecting the colour or tone of the image. The extra wide aspect ratio is also useful for capturing multiple images in one frame.
The One Ace 5G is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750 5G processor with 4 or 6 GB RAM. This should be enough for everyday tasks – think social media, productivity, communication, creativity and even some lightweight games. Motorola is known for its lightweight user interface, and it’s here in full power with Android 10. During our test everything went smoothly and no important luggage was weighed on the plane. For storage, there is 64GB or 128GB with an internal microSD card slot for expansion.
The main function is probably 5G, although it is not yet fully developed, with support only for frequencies below 6GHz. This is a national 5G, not the super fast speeds you were promised. The Motorola One Ace 5G has been active on T-Mobile’s sub-6 network in the US since its launch, and sub-6 support from AT&T and Verizon is expected to arrive in the coming months.
The One Ace 5G is complemented by a USB-C power port, 5000 mAh for two days of autonomy, a fingerprint sensor on the back and a headphone jack. The design is mainly made of plastic, on which fingerprints quickly appear, but it doesn’t look super cheap. The silver pattern also has a beautiful iridescent effect.
The Motorola One Ace 5G is now available for pre-order and will be available from the 14th. January delivered. For $399, the One Ace 5G is worth a look if you want a cheap phone ready for the future. The 5G support is great for the price – even if it’s immature.
Motorola will retain three models under the Moto G name to give consumers more choice in an economical package.
Motorcycle G Game
The $169.99 Moto G Play is an enhanced version of the Moto Es that we’ve already reviewed, and it has some solid features. Watch with a 6.5 inch Max Vision screen in 720p HD quality. Of the four cameras, this is the one with the thickest edge around the screen, with a thick chin at the bottom and a notch at the top. This notch contains a 5 megapixel front lens and a 13 megapixel rear lens in combination with a 2 megapixel deep camera. It should be an average movie experience, but nothing to write home about.
Striking about Moto G Play is that the 5,000 mAh battery lasts up to three days. That’s pretty big for a low-budget phone, and partly due to the efficiency of the processor. The G-game contains a Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 with 3GB of RAM. It won’t be the fastest Android 10 experience ever, but it should be enough for most basic tasks. It is also made entirely of plastic, with the USB-C port on the bottom and the headphone jack on the top. We’re fans of the color Misty Blue, but like all these phones, it’s pretty big.
Performance Moto G
Those looking for more power should consider the Moto G Power for $199.99. With a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 and 3 or 4 GB RAM inside, we found that it glides faster than other G-motors in our tests so far. Again, Motorola promises a battery life of three days, depending on use. The previous G Power was better at games and heavier tasks than other budget phones – the G Power 2021 still meets that requirement. During our test, it seemed faster than the Moto G Fast and gave us a lot of room to perform the tasks. Everyday applications (social and productivity) are responsive and game performance is smooth. Especially Call of Duty: The phone was playable, and it didn’t freeze very often. The 662 processor is linked to performance and efficiency. It also flies close to the E-motorcycle or the A01 Galaxy.
The imaging system is also offset, with three lenses on the back: a 48 megapixel main lens, a 2 megapixel macro lens and a 2 megapixel depth-of-field lens. We will have to test this further, but we think the 48 megapixel camera will be the most useful of the trio here. For selfies and video calls, there is an 8-megapixel lens in the notch. It is located in the top left corner of this 6.6-inch Max Vision screen, which also works at a resolution of 720p.
At $199.99, it’s one notch above Moto G’s game, but still behind our best budget choice of the year, Pixel 4a ($499), which has 5G on top.
Motorcycle G Stylus
The $299.99 Moto G Stylus is the most intriguing model in the lineup. It’s like a cheap milk bill with a simple stylus in the phone. It is quite easy to make notes and sketches along the way. You use it on the large 6.8-inch Max Vision screen. As with the G-power, there is a notch in the top left corner that covers the 16-megapixel lens. On the back Motorola has a 48 megapixel main lens, an 8 megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2 megapixel macro lens and a 2 megapixel depth sensor. It’s the best photographic experience in Moto G. The combination of a 48-megapixel lens and a faster processor not only increases shooting time, but also improves image processing.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 processor with 4GB RAM powers the phone. Like all new phones, it runs on Android 10 with a little Motorola customization. This includes custom functions for using the pen, such as. B. Mark a screenshot. The current design of the G-stylus is similar to that of the Galaxy Note 2 – made of plastic, lightweight and very shiny. Motorola also has a fingerprint sensor in the on/off button – it was quite easy to install and works relatively easily. At $299.99 it seems to be the most versatile.
