In case you missed it, the highly anticipated monster movie Godzilla vs. King Kong hit theaters earlier this week and has received positive reviews so far.
This is the fourth film in Legendary’s MonsterVerse, which pits two of pop culture’s greatest titans against each other to determine who is truly at the top of the food chain.
Sure, it’s a totally fictional, CGI-heavy movie, but a lot of people are very excited about it. Even Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant talked about the movie on Twitter when the first trailer was released a few months ago.
If the colossal battle between these two imaginary monsters is just the work of a creative mind, the NBA could soon have an endgame that rivals Godzilla and King Kong. Well, figure it out.
Several competitors in both conferences are now equipped with top talent. This year’s battle for the Larry O’Brien trophy could come very close to an actual fight between Godzilla and King Kong.
Here are five possible scenarios for an NBA Finals between two monster teams.
Nets vs.Lakers

A possible matchup between Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving against LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the rest of the Los Angeles Lakers was hinted at before James Harden completed the formidable trio from Brooklyn.
Both teams, of course, bolstered their already overcrowded rosters by becoming the biggest winners on the overbought market (to the annoyance of the rest of the league, of course). The Nets got Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge, while the Purple and Gold won the race for Andre Drummond.
The Nets seemed to beat the world even without Durant, as Irving and Harden played perfectly with the team’s role players like DeAndre Jordan, Joe Harris and Jeff Green.
Meanwhile, the Lakers didn’t look as formidable as they did at the end of the season, but they were also heavily outplayed early in the season.
Guys like Dennis Schroeder, Montrezell Harrell, Kyle Kuzma and Talen Horton-Tucker do their best to guard the fort during King and Brough’s absence.
Imagine how scary they will be when they are 100% again. On paper, these two teams should compete for the trophy in the playoffs.
After all, both teams combined have an incredible number of titles and All-Star appearances to their credit.
However, nothing is guaranteed and they have yet to emerge victorious from their respective divisions.
Bucks vs.Scissors
If there is a change and the Lakers and Nets are out, those two teams are the likely culprits.
Ultimately, a potential battle between the Clippers and Bucks is preceded by a battle between two literal titans, the Freak vs.
Of course, fans and pundits have a right to be skeptical of these two teams, considering they lost in the playoffs the past two seasons. Still, no one can deny that both teams are more formidable than ever.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is still playing at the MVP level and is surrounded by much better talent this time around. Last time I checked, the Kawhi Leonard-Paul George connection was still one of the best duos in the league.
As much as I’d like to see most of them deny their chances, at the end of the season it could very well be one of these teams holding up the Larry O’Brien trophy. Godzilla or King Kong do… not so much.
Lakers vs. Sixers
These two historic franchises are no strangers to each other, as they faced each other in the 2001 Marbles final. Shaq and Kobe’s Lakers used to be better than AI and the Sixers, but this year it looks like they have a chance to win in Philly.
Joel Embiid was in the running for the MVP award earlier this season and is about to return from a long injury. Ben Simmons was considered the best defender in the league today, while Tobias Harris should have been an All-Star.
Until proven otherwise, the defending champion has the benefit of the doubt. Once LeBron and AD return from their respective injuries, they will really give this Sixers team a run for their money.
Nets against scissors
It could very well be LA against Brooklyn in the finals, but don’t be surprised if the Clippers spoil that party. Can you imagine these two teams meeting in a seven-game series?
Leonard versus Durant, George versus Harden, Rondo versus Irving. Heck, even Ibaka against Griffin or Aldridge sounds good too. As surprising as it may seem, these two unproven teams have yet to outscore other opponents to do so.
Nuggets vs.Heat
Admittedly, this match-up doesn’t seem as excellent as the one suggested above. However, it is quite possible that this will happen in July.
In the end, the Nuggets and Heat surprised many and remained as one of four teams last season.
Both teams were also the biggest winners at the trade deadline, acquiring top talent without giving much in return.
Denver added the unpredictable Aaron Gordon to a talented young core of Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. Pat Riley was also able to convince Rockets management to fire Victor Oladipo for a meager return on investment. He created his own Big Three of Oladipo, Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler.
