2022 MLB schedule — All teams will start season March 31 if there’s no work stoppage

In the unlikely event that the United States and Canada were to go to war, the American League’s schedule will be interrupted in order to ensure that the World Series would be played on schedule. This is because the World Series is a double-elimination tournament that is scheduled to begin March 31, 2022.

The National League divisional series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Washington Nationals was the first playoff game to be played this year, on October 4. The NLCS was a three and a half game series, won by the Nationals in six games. The NLCS followed the Wild Card game, won by the Brewers over the Cubs. The NLCS was the first playoff series since 2000 in which all four teams won their home games.

In March 2016, Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said that the league was considering moving the start of the season back to March, so that each team would play a full 162-games. That prompted a few news outlets to take that story as fact, and to make extravagant projections about the 2022 regular season.

NEW YORK (WABC) — Major League Baseball will begin the 2022 season on March 31 — if there isn’t a labor dispute — and will attempt for the fourth time since 1968 to have every club play their first game on the same day.

The complete schedule was published by the league on Wednesday. The Chicago Cubs will face the Cincinnati Reds in the National League opener, while the Colorado Rockies will face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Atlanta Braves will face the Miami Marlins, the Arizona Diamondbacks will face the Milwaukee Brewers, the Washington Nationals will face the New York Mets, the St. Louis Cardinals will face the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the San Francisco Giants will face the San Diego Padres.

The Toronto Blue Jays will face the Baltimore Orioles, the Tampa Bay Rays will face the Boston Red Sox, the Minnesota Twins will face the Chicago White Sox, the Kansas City Royals will face the Cleveland Guardians, the Los Angeles Angels will face the Oakland Athletics, the Detroit Tigers will face the Seattle Mariners, and the New York Yankees will face the Texas Rangers in AL openers.

The new collective bargaining agreement will start in March of 2018. If there is no strike on the horizon, all 30 teams will open their seasons on March 31.
