Shawn Johnson, winner of the eighth season of Dancing with the Stars and a 15-time season winner, recently revealed that she and her husband Andrew East are expecting their second child – and that their first child will be just over a year old. Following the announcement, East spoke on the Today show about her future offspring and the challenges she faced as a new parent when her first child, Drew, was born in November 2019.
Everything changed when Drew was born.
East told Today Parents that their marriage definitely changed after they had a baby because they had to put the needs of others first.
This personality change happens when you go from recklessness to holy smoke, we have an addiction to treat, East said. We definitely had some problems in the first few months.
He also said that with baby #2 on the way, they are much more relaxed because they have been there before.
Our expectations are very different, East said. We love each other even more. We’re having more fun than we ever imagined. I’m sure there will be chaos, and I’m sure there will be controversy when the new baby comes. But now we have a different perspective.
Johnson and East should have made their marriage apriority.
East said that as he and Johnson went through their ups and downs as parents, they had to make a conscious decision to prioritize their marriage. What they’ve done is earn one night a week, just for them. They’re totally unreachable. It’s time for Sean and Andrew.
It’s very good advice that we received early on, the NFL long snapper said. It was such an important part of our program. So much happens after a child is born and it’s easy to lose touch. It’s good that we can always count on being together once a week. Just the two of us.
He went on to say that they don’t use the time to do anything. They prefer to use it only to communicate with each other.
We’re trying to create a moment where we can learn new things about each other and keep the date-night mentality, East said. Also, every night, after we put Drew to bed, we have a 10-15 minute period to look back on the day before we sit on the couch and watch TV.
But the pair are looking forward to 2021. In an Instagram post on New Year’s Eve, Johnson wrote: 2020 was a crazy race. 2021, we’re ready for you. @andrewdeast Thanks for shining our light this year 🙂 I never get tired of your crazy site, I love you baby! Let’s do number 2021, we’re ALL done.
They should welcome baby number two in the summer of 2021.
Dancing with the Stars is hopefully back with its 30th season. Return season in 2021. ABC has not yet announced an update date or an official premiere.
