The Los Angeles Lakers are in the running for the finals, there is no denying that. They are last year’s champions and have two superstars with a strong team around them, Anthony Davis and LeBron James. But sometimes stars win championships. The Brooklyn Nets are the favorites in the Eastern Conference and with Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving have more stars than the Lakers. Although the Lakers currently have a good team, they may decide to improve the list by trading another star to create their own Big Three.
The star that the Los Angeles Lakers might trade is Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards. The Washington Wizards are currently between 3 and 11, and it doesn’t look like they will get better anytime soon. The Wizards might decide to trade Beal to rebuild him and send him to a rival. The Los Angeles Lakers seem open to the idea of sending someone other than James and Davis to bring in Bradley Beal, as a superstar of his caliber doesn’t come along very often. While anyone other than the superstars on the list could be targeted by the Wizards in a trade, here is a possible trade package from the Lakers to land Bradley Beal:
The Los Angeles Lakers get: Bradley Beal
The Washington Wizards have Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harrell, Alex Caruso, Talen Horton-Tucker.
The Washington Wizards have many strong players.
Now let’s get rid of this problem: There are better commercial offers that other teams could put together for Bradley Beal. Other teams have elite young prospects who could be traded. The Wizards will likely accept other offers that are better than the Lakers’. But anything can happen in the NBA. If Bradley Beal specifically asks to be traded to Los Angeles, the Wizards could try to accommodate their longtime star. You won’t get the next superstar with the Los Angeles package, but there are plenty of solid players who could be good at rebuilding the franchise.
We know what we are getting with Montrezl Harrell, as he has been around for six months. Harrell puts in a lot of effort to rebound and brings strength and toughness to his style of play, he puts in a lot of pressure and brings in the baskets. Alex Caruso and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope both know how to play role 3 and role D, both are good defenders and Caldwell-Pope is a great shooter. Caruso has also improved his sweater and leads the NBA in 3PT% to 55.9%, albeit at a very low volume.
Kyle Kuzma is probably the centerpiece of this package, as he is a young player who has sacrificed some keys to win. With a higher utilization rate, he can build on the results he achieved in his first few years in the league. Talen Horton-Tucker showed promise in his few minutes, and in a rebuilding franchise he could get the hits he needed to develop his skills. All of the players named in the commercial package are solid, but none of them are instant All-Star caliber.
The Los Angeles Lakers have their big three.
The Los Angeles Lakers would be an elite Big Three in this scenario, perhaps the best in the league. Bradley Beal would be a perfect match for LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Bradley Beal doesn’t have to dominate the ball to be a good player: he has played alongside a great playmaker like John Wall in recent years. But Beal can obviously score points with the best of them, as he currently averages 35.4 PPG as his first option with the Washington Wizards. Although he will have a smaller role with the Lakers, he will benefit from other stars carrying the offensive load. Los Angeles knows how to bring stars to its team (Anthony Davis), and Bradley Beal could be next.
If Bradley Beal wants to leave, the Washington witches should consider trading him. A destination like the Lakers could easily attract a star who only wants to win. If the Lakers had Beal, they would have a “Big Three” similar to LeBron James’ original super team in Miami. Bradley Beal would give the Los Angeles Lakers a better chance at a championship, and if the Wizards are going to trade, the Lakers should definitely try to acquire an electric shooting guard.
