The film will also feature martial arts actor and Wu Assassins star Lewis Tan. Although his role has not yet been revealed, we can now confirm that Thane will play Cole Young, a brand new character introduced to the world of Mortal Kombat.

POWERFUL : Opening the first images of Godzilla vs Kong, Mortal Kombat, Space Jam 2 and more.

When we first meet Cole, he’s in bad shape, Tan says. He’s had a bad start. He was kind of a defeated MMA fighter who was a champion, who believed in himself, who had a lot of hope in his career. And it all went wrong. It’s a very interesting place for a hero, and I think you can meet all those other characters and emblematic elements that everyone loves so much during Mortal Kombat and Cole’s journey and find out where he came from.

Directed by Simon McQuoid for his feature film debut and based on a script by Greg Russo and Dave Callaham, Mortal Kombat will of course be based on the immensely popular video game series of the same name. The film will feature classic characters: Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Scorpio, Sonia Blade, Jax and Kano, as well as Chin Han in Shang Tsung, Max Huang in Kung Lao, Cece Stringer in Milena, Elissa Cadwell in Nitara and Daniel Nelson in Kabala.

McQuoid also did his best to make sure the material was taken seriously. I wanted to make sure that everyone respected the material, the legend of Mortal Kombat, the fans and the love they have for him. Everyone was very clear, the director is talking about developing a reboot.

Respecting the material, of course, means not fearing the disgusting fight scenes so synonymous with Mortal Kombat. McQuoid showed that he had set the bar very high by having the stunt coordinator, Kyle Gardiner, take the best shots ever in a film.

Although the director is still working hard on the editing of the film, he is confident that the film will definitely not be rated PG-13. This is sure to please fans of Mortal Kombat. Taken out of context, this quote may seem inflammatory, but it is not: According to him, the rules regarding ranking are not what many people think. It’s the amount of blood, the amount of red, the interpretation of how you do it. We fought a lot to find the right balance, so there was pain, blood and death. He pauses and repeats what he just said. And there are mountains and blood and death.

Actor Lewis Tan also spoke a bit more about the emblematic dead and their proximity to the original that will be projected on the big screen. Some people die like crazy, Tan points out. We’ve chosen a few icons. There are a lot of really cool signature moves you’ll see, a lot of Easter eggs that we introduced in the movie, but there are also some really nasty deaths that I can’t wait to see on the big screen. They are cruel. They, they don’t hold back.

Mortal Kombat is scheduled for the 16th. April to appear simultaneously in cinemas and on HBO Max. This came to us from Entertainment Weekly.
