The Eastern Conference Finals and Western Conference Finals are done, and now its time for the Stanley Cup Finals. The Toronto Maple Leafs have won the East, they are the first team outside of the United States to make the Finals since the St. Louis Blues in 2010, and they swept the Montreal Canadiens in the process. So the question is can the Leafs win their first Stanley Cup since 1967? The Canadiens are also in the Finals for the first time since 2010. They took out the Boston Bruins in six games, but they were also swept in the Eastern Conference Finals in 2010.
How do these teams match up? After a hard fought seven-game series against the Boston Bruins, the Toronto Maple Leafs have advanced to the second round of the NHL Playoffs. Now, the young and upstart team will face the defending Stanley Cup Champion Montreal Canadiens. While the Maple Leafs did force a Game 7 against the Bruins, they were outmatched, and were only able to force that game seven because their goalie made an incredible game-saving save in overtime during Game 6. The Canadiens, meanwhile, swept their opponent, the New York Rangers. The Habs were able to keep the Rangers from scoring an even-strength goal in the entire series.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will look to take a commanding 3-0 lead in their series with the Montreal Canadiens in Game 4 on Thursday night, while the Detroit Red Wings will try to keep their playoff hopes alive with a win over the Chicago Blackhawks.. If the Montreal Canadiens win, the Leafs take a 3-1 lead and will have to fight back in Game 7. Speaking of which, that’s exactly what happened to the Vegas Golden Knights, who led the series 3-1 before the Minnesota Wild won two to take the series to Game 7 on Friday night. The Knights won and advanced to face the Colorado Avalanche. And yep, the second round begins Saturday when the New York Islanders visit the Boston Bruins in the first series between these teams since 1983. About last night

No day
Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin left the game after Nicolas Rua pushed him against the boarding early in the first period. With the loss of their leading defenseman, the Wild only had five defensemen – and that helped Vegas score three goals in the second period to tilt the game.
Statistics of the day
According to ESPN Stats & Information, Mattias Janmark’s hat trick was his eighth in Game 7. The last three players to score a hat trick in Game 7: Janmark, Joel Kiviranta last season and Wayne Gretzky in 1993.
Three Star Day

Course of the day: Maple Leafs second period puck line (-0.5)
The Leafs’ offense didn’t wake up until after the first intermission, scoring just one goal in the first, but 10 in the second.

Question of the day: Rest or Rust?
The Colorado Avalanche and Winnipeg Jets still have a significant lead over their rivals, the Vegas Golden Knights and Maple Leafs, who won the Canadiens series. I tend to think that extra rest is always better for the team to be healthy, but it’s worth asking if that can lead to a slow start against an opponent with momentum.Montreal travels to Toronto in what should be a heated battle between two of the NHL’s best teams. Both teams are filled with young stars and players who have had long NHL careers. The two teams have played each other two times already this series and both games were very close. The Canadiens won game one by a score of 2-1 and the Maple Leafs won game two by a score of 3-2. RailRiders & Chris_Gough wrote in his blog: “As the season started, most people predicted that the Toronto Maple Leafs would be the ones to win the Stanley Cup. However, as the playoffs are approaching, it is the Montreal Canadiens who currently have the best chances of taking the Cup.”. Read more about nhl standings and let us know what you think.
