The Jacksonville Jaguars will host the New Orleans Saints in their first game of the 2018 NFL season on Sunday, September 9th.
The packers vs saints 2021 will be the first game of the season for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
While New Orleans continues to rebuild from Hurricane Ida, the New Orleans Saints will “host” the Green Bay Packers at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville on Sept. 12.
Jacksonville has been named as the alternative location for the game, which will still begin at 4:25 p.m. ET as planned.
The Saints had shown interest in playing the game in Dallas, where they have set up temporary operations after evacuating New Orleans last week. But the Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium was unavailable because of a concert scheduled in the venue later that week.
Because of replay rules and other logistical issues, the NFL prefers that all games be played in NFL stadiums. However, according to Saints general manager Mickey Loomis, the league constantly considers alternative sites that may be accessible each week in case of unforeseen situations.
The Saints will play on the road in Weeks 2 and 3 against Carolina and New England, respectively. After that, the Saints should be able to return to the Caesars Superdome.
The Superdome escaped with very little damage. However, severe power outages in the New Orleans region, as well as personnel and security concerns, would make hosting a game by next week impossible.
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst stated on Wednesday that the Packers had no say in whether the game will be held in Jacksonville or not.
“Given that it was New Orleans’ home game,” Gutekunst added, “I don’t believe we had a whole lot of say.” “However, we would have preferred to have it here [at Lambeau Field]; that would have been great.”
Matt LaFleur, the Packers’ coach, believes his squad will adapt to the new site.
“We’ll adapt, and I believe there will be some adjustments: some positives, for example, it won’t be as loud. The disadvantage is that simulating that level of heat is difficult “he said
Season-ticket holders will be contacted with information on all ticket choices, according to the Saints. When asked whether the Saints were aware that they were choosing a location that would deny Green Bay any kind of home-field advantage, Loomis said, “When it comes to preparing for an opponent, we’re extremely aware of everything. But the most important issue is that we need an NFL-ready stadium, and there are so many factors.”
Because to extreme weather, the Metrodome roof falling in Minnesota, and problems linked to the coronavirus pandemic last season when the San Francisco 49ers played their last two home games in Arizona, the NFL has relocated games in the past.
Unfortunately, the Saints have had to make similar changes in the past, including having to leave New Orleans for a full season after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and moving practices out of town on numerous occasions.
The Saints are likely to spend up to a month in Dallas until the New Orleans region is back up and running. Despite the fact that the team’s practice facility in Metairie, Louisiana, did not suffer any major damage, the Saints want to wait until all players and staff members’ lives are back to normal before going home.
The Saints announced Wednesday that they will temporarily be practicing and conducting strength and conditioning at TCU’s facilities in the coming weeks. SMU and AT&T Stadium will also be available to the Saints if scheduling issues arise.
“We are extremely thankful for the many offers we received in the Dallas-Fort Worth region and have been overwhelmed by the community’s generosity in our time of need,” Loomis said in a statement. “We are aware that TCU and its student-athletes and staff are hard at work preparing for the season, and we are aware of the pressures and demands that an NFL club will put on their facilities. For their efforts, they have our organization’s heartfelt gratitude.”
