Following Governor Newsom’s Recent Vaccination Measures, Others Follow Suit •

California Governor Jerry Brown recently signed a new law that will provide parents with a vaccine exemption form for personal and philosophical reasons. The law, which Brown signed on September 15th, requires that insurance companies cover the costs of the vaccine. The bill, which was signed into law on August 28th, then had to be passed by both the state Senate and the state Assembly in order for it to go into effect.

In 2018, California Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill into law that would make the state the first in the nation to allow undocumented immigrants to get their newborns immunized without fear of deportation. The law is intended to help fight the spread of diseases such as whooping cough and influenza, and the hope is that it will prevent future outbreaks of these illnesses and prevent immunizations from falling through the cracks. The law will go into effect in 2020, but there is a lot of debate about the details. The law would allow undocumented families to get their children vaccinated for things like diphtheria, tetanus, and polio. State public health officials are saying this is a great way to prevent disease. Others, such as Governor Jerry Brown, are saying

In California, the governor recently signed a bipartisan bill that requires all children six months or older to be vaccinated before they can attend public school, regardless of whether they are already vaccinated. The bill was passed by the state legislature on October 7, and then signed by Newsom on October 18. Newsom’s action, on the heels of similar legislation by other states, has sparked a national debate on the pros and cons of vaccination, with critics highlighting the dangers of vaccines.. SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Several of California’s biggest companies, including private enterprises and municipal agencies, have stated that they would follow Governor Gavin Newsom’s example in adopting employee vaccination and testing policies during the last week.

Employers throughout the state and country have adopted similar procedures after California enacted new vaccination verification and testing requirements for state and health-care workers last Monday, and President Joseph Biden followed suit this past Thursday.

Unvaccinated employees would be subjected to at least one to two weekly COVID-19 testing and will be forced to wear proper PPE, according to Newsom’s announcement last week. High-risk congregate settings, such as adult and senior residential institutions, homeless shelters, and prisons, are subject to this requirement.

The new policy for state employees went into effect on Aug. 2, and testing will begin in the coming weeks. The new regulation for health care employees and communal institutions will go into effect on August 9, with health care facilities having until August 23 to comply.

This drive for vaccines and testing continues in the aftermath of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) statement on July 21 that the CDC would withdraw the request to the United States after December 31. The CDC 2019-Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Real-Time RT-PCR Diagnostic Panel has received an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the Food and Drug Administration. The test was initially released in February 2020 for the exclusive purpose of detecting SARS-CoV-2.

The PCR test, which has only been used in San Luis Obispo County and nationwide, is incorrect, according to the CDC, and may result in erroneous findings. As a result, they recommend that labs explore using a multiplexed approach to help identify and differentiate SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses.

Along with the CDC’s findings, it was also verified that existing COVID-19 testing is unable to identify various strains such as the Delta variety.

The COVID Delta Variant, which is generating the current outbreaks and hospitalizations, is more transmissible but not fatal.

There has been a decrease in the number of people who have been vaccinated throughout the country. As a result, local government authorities have launched public awareness campaigns encouraging people to get the COVID-19 vaccination.

To encourage residents of San Luis Obispo County to get vaccinated, the SLO County Public Health Department announced that beginning Aug. 2, anyone who receives their COVID-19 vaccine from a County of San Luis Obispo Public Health Clinic or a mobile vaccination clinic will receive a $25 gift card for each dose. Gift certificates will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and will vary per clinic.

“Increasing immunization throughout SLO County is critical to stopping the pandemic, particularly with the emergence of the Delta variant,” stated County Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein. “These incentives are a call to action to get the vaccination and protect yourself and your family right now. While the gift cards may serve as an incentive, the real benefit is being shielded from the expense and misery of COVID-19.”

In addition, the Department of Public Health will hold a referral raffle to encourage people to assist their friends and relatives obtain the vaccination. This may include assisting with scheduling an appointment, providing transportation to the clinic, accompanying the patient to provide support, or exchanging information. Those who get vaccinations may put the person who assisted or recommended them into a weekly raffle for a $100 gift box.

“As the Delta variety spreads across SLO County, every vaccination gets us closer to ending the pandemic and saving our loved ones and neighbors from this horrible disease,” stated Dr. Borenstein. “Those who have been waiting should make an appointment or come in to receive their vaccine.”

The County reported on Tuesday, Aug. 3 that two people, one in his sixties and the other in their eighties, had died as a result of COVID-19.

There was no mention of immunization status or any underlying health problems.

This is in line with Governor Newsom’s recent vaccination measures, which include a law that requires all children, birth to 5 years old, to be vaccinated against 10 preventable diseases.
