After a series of back and forth statements, the NFL has decided that Chiefs head coach Andy Reid will not be opening training camp on time. Even though the dispute centered around a contract extension, this is the Chiefs first training camp under the two year old agreement with Reid.
When the Kansas City Chiefs open training camp next month, they’ll be missing a few key players. They’ll be without star defensive tackle Dontari Poe, who was traded to the Atlanta Falcons, and linebacker Tamba Hali, who was released by the team. But Chiefs coach Andy Reid will have to deal with a more significant distraction: a brewing dispute with a team employee, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Teicher.
The Kansas City Chiefs have had an interesting offseason. Not only did they lose their offensive coordinator, but they also had to face the possibility of not having a head coach. This uncertainty has been the case since they fired head coach Andy Reid at the end of the 2017 season, and it has only deepened over the past few days.
The Kansas City Chiefs probably felt trouble coming when they won their final seven regular season games last fall, totaling 27 points. Coach Andy Reid led the defending NFL champions to the playoffs against the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills, but the Chiefs lost the Super Bowl by 55 points to their toughest opponent, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Chiefs will certainly want to come back strong in 2021 to reaffirm their dominance of the AFC. During the final preparations, however, they are faced with an undeniable distraction.

The window for organized team activities and mandatory minicamps closes on the 18th. June. Then, starting in mid-July, the teams traditionally open their preseason camps according to their own schedule. But as the NFL keeps an eye on the pandemic, the league has decided that nearly all teams will start camp on a common date. The Buccaneers, Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys start a few days earlier, while the Chiefs and the other 28 teams start on the 27th. Launching in July. It’s not a good time for Reed, who probably has some personal issues right now.
Britt Reid pleaded not guilty
. Former Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid appeared in a Missouri state court Monday to plead not guilty to serious injuries to a little girl in an accident days before the team went to the Super Bowl in Tampa. A judge modified Reed’s bond at his arraignment so he can get back behind the wheel with a device that requires him to take a breathalyzer test before his car will start, the Associated Press reported. Reed, the son of head coach Andy Reed, is accused of causing bodily harm by driving under the influence days before the Chiefs’ team left for the Super Bowl. Reed’s car collided with two cars on the highway ramp near Arrowhead Stadium. According to the police report, one of the cars came to the rescue after the other stopped. A child in one of the cars, 5-year-old Ariel Young, suffered head injuries after the car she was in was hit by Reed’s car. The GoFundMe campaign for the girl has already raised over $575. Police said Reed’s blood alcohol level was .113 two hours after the accident. The legal limit is 0.08.
Case continued on 22 July
. The Chiefs put Britt Reed on leave after the accident and did not extend his contract when it expired after losing Super Bowl 55 against the Buccaneers. His case will be heard at an arraignment on the 22nd. July has begun again, less than a week before the start of training camp. If the charges are not dropped or a settlement is reached, a trial may begin shortly thereafter. If Reed is convicted, he risks seven years in prison. It’s clear that Andy Reid will be concerned with that, whether the process begins during the preseason or after the start of the regular season in September. Football fans have already seen how the Chiefs handle such a big problem. Kansas City entered Super Bowl 55 as a slight favorite, but Tampa Bay really shook up the Chiefs’ offense with three tackles, two interceptions and constant pressure from Patrick Mahomes. Offensively, Tom Brady scored three times in the first half to secure the 31-9 victory. The Chiefs were unable to make the necessary adjustments to secure the victory. Of course, you could argue that the Buccaneers would have won under any circumstances. However, we cannot rule out the possibility that the incident with his son distracted Andy Reid.
