Sir Sean Connery suffered from dementia in the last years of his life, his wife told him he died this weekend.

The James Bond legend died Saturday at the age of 90, surrounded by his family, including his second wife, Michelin, aged 45.

According to the French-Moroccan artist, Sir Sean has always wanted to die peacefully and without fuss.

Micheline reported to the Mail Online about Sir Sean’s health battle: It wasn’t a life for him. For the last time, he couldn’t express himself. At least he died in his sleep, and it was so peaceful.

I was with him the whole time, and he just slipped away. That’s what he wanted. He suffered from dementia, and it scared him. He got one last wish so he could get away with it.

Micheline added that she lovingly remembers her husband: He was great and we had a great life together. He was a human model. It’s going to be very difficult without him, I know that. But it couldn’t last forever, so he left peacefully.

Micheline, 91, met Sir Sean at a golf tournament in 1970 and married five years later. They had no children together, but the Scottish actor had a son, Jason, from his marriage to his first wife, Diana Cilento. Micheline also has three children from previous marriages – Oliver, Mischa and Stefan.

Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan also paid tribute to Sir Sean last night: Sir Sean Connery, as a child you were my greatest James Bond and the man who became James Bond himself. They cast a long shadow of cinematic splendour that will live on forever.

You’ve led us all in your legendary footsteps. Each of them in turn looked at you with respect and admiration as we developed our own interpretation of the role.

He went on to say: You were powerful in every way, as an actor and as a man, and you will remain so until the end of time. You’re loved by the whole world and you’ll be missed. God bless you, rest, rest, rest, rest.

Pierce played the role of 007 in four Bond films, including Die One More Day and Tomorrow Never Dies.

To the big screen icon Robert De Niro, who starred in 1978 in the film Untouchables with Sir Sean: I’m really sorry Sean’s dead. He looked much younger than 90; I expected – and hoped – that he would stay with us much longer. I’ll see you there, Shawn.

Daniel Craig, current and former James Bond actor, added: “It is with such sadness that I learned of the death of one of the true greats of cinema. Sir Sean Connery will be remembered as Bond and more. He defined the era and the style.

The spirit and charm he shows on the screen is measured in megawatts; he contributed to the creation of a modern blockbuster. It will continue to influence actors and filmmakers in the coming years.

My thoughts are with his family and loved ones. Wherever he is, I hope there’s a golf course.
