Fantasy hockey rankings Week 10 update

Fantasy hockey rankings Week 10 update

There are less than 20 games left for some NHL teams, so it’s time for your fantasy leagues to test your mettle. ESPN.com’s standard is the penultimate week of the regular season.

At this point, there won’t be many key players just on the waiting list. But judging by the percentage of usurers in the ESPN leagues, there are several.

Baseball is back, and so is fantasy! Convene a group or create a new tradition.

I usually try to focus on players who are in less than 50% of leagues in the draft, so there’s a chance there are players from your league in the draft. But today, we’re the ones who clean. The threshold for this group of players is 80%, because the idea is to make sure you don’t miss Clutch on your expansion list. Check each of them to make sure they are not already in the registry.

Roope Hintz, F, Dallas Stars (73.4% in ESPN leagues): The only excuse for him not being a versatile player is the way he’s been in and out of the lineup this season due to some injuries. Because statistically, Hinz is a force. His 2.2 fantasy points per game (FPPG) are comparable to Artemi Panarin and Stephen Stamkos. If he continues at this rate, he’ll be 21st in the NHL in fantasy points remaining. If you’re in the same league as him, check it out.

Martin Necas, F, Carolina Hurricanes (67.6%): Necas has been since the 26th. February scored 2.4 FPPG, making him the league’s player of the week. He had a bigger chance last week, but it’s closing in fast. And while there are some concerns about deployment once Vincent Trocheck and Teuvo Teravainen return to action, he should be with the team for a while.

Brendan Gallagher, Florida State, Montreal Canadiens (79.4%): Gallagher may have stayed under the radar, as the uptick in his performance coincides with the team’s coaching change. At the time of the switch, he scored 1.5 FPPG, which is relevant in fantasy. Since then, he has increased his FPPG to 1.7, since the 26th. February at 1.9. This is very relevant to fantasy, whether you take the overall average or just the result since the change.

Timo Meyer, F, San Jose Sharks (plus 69.8%): Like Gallagher, Meyer has made a turnaround in the last month by increasing his FPPG from 1.3 to 1.6. Much of this increase is due to a strong power struggle. His bond with Thomas Gertl was slow to materialize this season, but the two have grown closer and Meyer has been seen less on the fantasy free agent market.

2 Connected

Jonas Brodin, D, Minnesota Wild (plus 56.2 percent): Based on this season’s results, Brodin ranks in the top 20 defenders in terms of fantasy points remaining. Although he only has 15 points this season, his production represents the perfect blend of most other major fantasy categories for ESPN. This season he even leads all Wild skaters in overall production, but he remains widely available. Put it on an endurance race.

Nikita Zaitsev, D, Ottawa Senators (plus-27.0 percent): While Thomas Chabot has 62.9 fantasy points this season and appears in 96.3% of leagues, Zaitsev has 62.3 fantasy points and appears in only a quarter of leagues. Zaytsev, like Brodin, doesn’t score many goals, but he hits and blocks shots with aplomb.

Progress

Mika Zibanejad, F, New York Rangers (+43 pitches, to 31): I fervently hope the first two months of this season are something Zibanejad and I can forget about in the upcoming 2021-22 fantasy season. But at least for the rest of the season, I think we can announce that he’s back. Last year’s leader in FPPGs is rebounding, with 3.0 FPPGs since Feb. 26, just slightly behind Connor McDavid, who leads the league in that span. And he took all boats, as did Adam Fox, Ryan Strome (power play partner) and Pavel Buchnevich (equivalent power play teammate), all of whom are also at the next level.

Clayton Keller, F, Arizona Coyotes (+35 pitches, at 161): While the overall result is somewhat tempered by the total lack of passes and blocked shots in his profile, Keller has picked up the pace of the stats he’s been collecting. He has 15 points in his last 16 games, many on the power play. Keller is available in 57% of ESPN leagues.

Protection in motion

Keith Yandle, D, Florida Panthers (54 pitches, 102): Losing Aaron Ekblad for the rest of the season is bad for dreams. Yandle gets promoted here, but that won’t help you replace Ekblad, as Yandle will already be on the roster. If the Panthers stick to their two-way approach on the power play, Gustav Forsling could be of moderate interest in deeper leagues. He was the third man to lead the Panthers and even scored a handful of points last time out.

Each night of the season featured analysis and lively post-game broadcasts by Barry Melrose and Linda Cohn. Watch ESPN+

Dougie Hamilton, D, Carolina Hurricanes (age 37-21): Over the past month, defensemen Dougie Hamilton, Adam Fox, Jeff Petry and Alec Martinez have stood out on their own. Hamilton has been there since the 25th. February without a point in a game.

Goalkeeper in motion

Igor Shesterkin, G, New York Rangers (+23 spots, to 60): As the Rangers’ offense comes back to life, Shesterkin is healthy again, this time for the rest of the season. Given how many injuries he’s had to miss, he should be prepared to start most of the Rangers’ games. From there, he has a clear path to 70% or better in the end zone, as his numbers are significantly better than Alexander Georgiev’s.

Alex Nedeljkovic, G, Carolina Hurricanes (up 19 spots to No. 208): I know I was Petr Mrazek’s defenseman in the Hurricanes series, but with Nedeljkovic playing lately, it’s not shocking that Mrazek isn’t back after his thumb surgery. Mrazek trains from time to time, but there is no timetable for his return yet. That’s just as well, because the Canes had to give up Nedeljkovic earlier this season to get a chance in the AHL. How lucky that no one claimed him. He now starts most of the Canes’ games and wins the vast majority of them. It would be great if we could get clarity on Mrazek’s status, but that seems unlikely unless the Hurricanes move their goalies. In the meantime, put Nedeljkovic on the team.
