Dallas Cowboys to induct Jimmy Johnson into Ring of Honor, Jerry Jones says

The Dallas Cowboys will induct former head coach Jimmy Johnson into the Ring of Honor, and owner Jerry Jones says that year’s head coach, Jason Garrett, has the potential to find himself in the same company. Johnson was the Cowboys’ head coach from 1989 to 1993, and won two Super Bowls during that span. Jones, meanwhile, has been the team’s owner since 1989.

Former Dallas Cowboys coach and general manager Jimmy Johnson will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August. The Hall of Fame announced this week that Johnson is one of nine inductees to be honored with a ring. It will be Johnson’s eighth time in the Hall. He was inducted in 2002 with the Class of ’85, the first class of inductees since 1999.

The Dallas Cowboys have announced that they are going to induct former head coach Jimmy Johnson into the team’s Ring of Honor. Jerry Jones, the owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, did not say when Jimmy Johnson would be inducted into the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor, but he did make an announcement Thursday night that many hoped would come sooner rather than later: Johnson will be inducted into the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor.

Johnson is set to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend, and Jones has previously said that he does not want to detract from that moment when debating when or if Johnson would be inducted into his team’s Ring of Honor.

“I believe we’ve got some wonderful days ahead of us,” Jones stated on FOX’s pregame program before the Cowboys’ Hall of Fame Game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. “‘Jerry, keep it kind of restricted with people, but make sure it wasn’t just about the plays they made,’ Tex Schramm, who established that Ring of Honor, said, ‘Keep it kind of limited with people, but make sure it wasn’t just about the plays they made.’ ‘Make sure they contributed to the franchise’s narrative.’ Now, it’s difficult not to notice [Johnson’s] contribution to the franchise’s narrative.”

Johnson, Jones’ old Arkansas teammate, joked about when the induction would take place after Jones’ statement, stating, “While I’m alive?”

Johnson brought the Cowboys back to prominence following a 1-15 season in 1989, his first year after taking over for Tom Landry. He won Super Bowls XXVII and XXVIII. After their second title, Johnson and Jones had a falling out, although Johnson is credited with a major part of the Cowboys’ success in Super Bowl XXX under coach Barry Switzer, a victory that made Dallas the first team to win three Super Bowls in four years.

Johnson had a 44-36 record with the Cowboys in five seasons, including a 7-1 playoff record.

Jones expressed remorse about the split with Johnson at the start of training camp.

“Ridiculous. My duty was to hold it together in this situation “Jones subsequently choked up as he said. “It was my responsibility. Deference should have been paid to something that was functioning well. Those are the first thoughts that spring to mind for me. We had a fantastic run. He’s a fantastic instructor, and I’m happy to call him a friend and to have had the experiences we did. We simply had a fantastic time.”

During a recent interview in Key Largo, Florida, Johnson was questioned about the Ring of Honor.

Johnson said, “I believe other people think about the Ring of Honor a lot more than I do.” “Jerry has often said that he intends to induct me into the Ring of Honor, and I believe that day will come whenever Jerry desires, which is great with me. I know what we’ve accomplished, and I’m extremely proud of it.”

Johnson hugged Jones at the conclusion of the interview on Thursday.

“Our achievements would not have occurred if it hadn’t been for Michael [Irvin], Emmitt [Smith], and the rest of the players on those teams. It took both of these men to get us to where we are now “On the pregame program, Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman remarked. “Jerry and his ownership would not have allowed Jimmy to be the coach he was, and Jerry would not have been the owner he was if Jimmy had not been the head coach. And we were the ones who benefited from it. I’m simply happy to see these two in one other’s company. It’s exactly what we’d all hoped for.”
