The Los Angeles Clippers had a party Saturday night, and the Dallas Mavericks spoiled it with a 118-108 victory in Game 3 of the N.B.A.’s Western Conference finals.
The Los Angeles Clippers were celebrating their championship on Tuesday night at home, but that celebration was short-lived after the Dallas Mavericks staged a late rally to take the game 118-108. The loss drops the Mavs to 7-7 on the season, and they still have a long way to go before getting back to .500. The Clippers will likely be playing with a sense of urgency to turn things around after their loss in Dallas.
DALLAS (AP) – Kawhi Leonard scored 36 points, Paul George added 29 and the Los Angeles Clippers spoiled Luka Doncic’s playoff home debut with a 118-108 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night to get back into a first-round playoff series.

Heading into the playoffs with a record 44 points when Dallas took a 30-11 lead. L.A.’s 14-0 run polished off much of the lead before the end of the first quarter, and George gave the Clippers their first lead with a three-pointer in the second quarter. The Clippers ended a five-game run of defeats that began in Florida last year, when Los Angeles beat Dallas in the first round in six games and then squandered a 3-1 lead in the second round against Denver. Leonard converted his first eight shots – including three during a 14-0 run that quieted the crowd – and George scored 22 points before halftime, going 10-for-13. Marcus Morris hit three three-pointers in the fourth quarter off the Dallas bench to give the Clippers a comfortable lead. Morris took down Dallas’ players more and more with each shot, eventually getting a technical card on his third shot, and Los Angeles led 112-110 with less than four minutes to play. He came out of the game a little later, but had already done his part by scoring nine of his 15 points in the fourth quarter. That wasn’t the only uncomfortable moment. Although Doncic scored his third 30-point game of the series before the fourth quarter, the support was not as effective as it was in Los Angeles. Kristaps Porzingis scored six points in the first five minutes, but didn’t get more than three points the rest of the game. He and Dorian Finney-Smith made 3 of 10 shots on goal, while Tim Hardaway Jr. made 4 of 14 shots and scored 12 points after averaging 25 in the first two games. TIPS Clippers: Serge Ibaka did not play because of a back injury that kept him sidelined for 30 consecutive regular season games before he played the last two.
