When Jameis Winston threw a pass in the fourth quarter that was caught by Bucs receiver Mike Evans, Tampa Bay tight end Cameron Brate claimed that the pass was not caught by Evans. The pass was thrown to the right of Evans, and Brate claimed that Evans “jumped up” for the ball. The problem with this is that the replay of the pass shows Evans catching the pass. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a disappointing team on the field, made one of the most shocking trades in NFL history over the weekend. They traded for Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans from the rival Carolina Panthers. The Panthers acquired Evans for the Bucs’ first-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft. The Bucs have two first-round picks next year, and the move by team ownership and coach Lovie Smith was aimed at boosting the team’s chances of winning the Super Bowl.
Blaine Gabbert is once again vying for the top backup quarterback position behind Tom Brady.
At the victory boat procession last winter, Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert thinks he grabbed the Lombardi Trophy from a future Hall of Famer.
Mike Evans, the Buccaneers’ top wide receiver, threw the trophy Gabbert from one boat to another, but it didn’t make the same splash as Tom Brady’s famous throw to tight end Cameron Brate. In response to the video’s viral success, Gabbert tweeted, “13 to 11… #hands.”
After Tuesday’s practice at training camp, Gabbert described Evans, along with fellow standout receivers Chris Godwin and Antonio Brown, as possible future Hall of Famers. The 11-year quarterback is hoping that the younger receivers pay attention. Tyler Johnson, Jaelin Darden, Cyril Grayson, Josh Pearson, Travis Jonsen, and T.J. Simmons are the six receivers on Tampa’s roster with fewer than two years of NFL experience.
“They’re all doing a great job,” Gabbert said in the press conference. “The biggest thing we’ve tried to relay to the young guys is — you could potentially have three Hall of Famers that you’re watching in Chris, Mike, and A.B. — and that’s unheard of, that’s never happened before on an NFL team,” Gabbert said.
Evans became the only receiver in NFL history to reach 1,000 yards receiving in each of his first seven seasons. In 2020, he reached the milestone against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 17 in a 1,006-yard, 13-touchdown season.

During the 2010s, Brown established himself as one of the greatest receivers in the game, earning first-team All-Pro accolades four times and appearing in seven Pro Bowls. He led the league in receiving yards and catches on two occasions, and he also led the league in touchdown receptions on one occasion.
Before the Bucs franchise-tagged him in the offseason, Godwin seemed to be on his way to being a highly sought-after free agent. In only four seasons, he’s already made the Pro Bowl and earned second-team All-Pro accolades.
“So simply seeing those players run, how they study, how they conduct themselves in meetings, how they prepare for practice, how they work after the catch – they set wonderful examples — nothing more has to be said. Because, as I said before, there are three possible Hall of Famers in that group, which speaks for itself.”
Gabbert receives two rings.
During the offseason, Gabbert earned two rings: a Super Bowl ring and a wedding ring.
On Tuesday, Gabbert remarked, “It was a whirlwind – it was a very fast offseason — the season went late fortunately, which was great.” Then I got married, and before I knew it, training camp was upon us. This offseason, I got a few rings, which was fantastic — I know my wife loved it.”
Gabbert is glad to be back with the Buccaneers.
Gabbert re-signed with the Buccaneers in May on a one-year, $2.5 million deal. It occurred only a week after Kyle Trask, the team’s second-round quarterback, was selected.
On Tuesday, Gabbert said, “It’s been a lot of fun – my third training camp here, having you guys back, having the fans back, it’s been a lot of fun.” “We’ve brought back almost everyone on the football team, so you can see the consistency developing — we’re still making errors, but we’re learning every day, and we’re sort of starting up where we left off last year, which is fantastic since it took us a long to gel last season. But I believe the sky is the limit if we get a head start on where we were.”
Being an NFL wide receiver, there are only a few things you can do that will ever be broadcast to the entire league – a touchdown celebration, a good catch, or a bad one.
