The Twins overtook the Angels in the 8th inning provided with the fact that they started their comeback with a four-run rally that lasted just two innings. The Twins started it in the top of the eighth with Neil Walker’s double and a two-run single from Eduardo Nunez.
The Twins managed to overtake the Angels with a rally in the 8th inning. They scored 4 runs, which is a result that is often hard to pull off, and they did it against the Angels. That is a team with a strong pitching staff and a lineup that has players like Trout and Pujols.
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (AP) The Minnesota Twins rallied against the Los Angeles Angels 5-4 on Friday night, with Nick Gordon scoring the game-winning run on a throwing error by catcher Kurt Suzuki in the eighth inning.

Raisel Iglesias (6-4) was tagged with his fourth blown save in 24 tries after being called with a runner on first base for what would’ve been a six-out save.

Jeffers, who hit three home runs, hit a grounder to left field. The Angels’ unraveling continued when Juan Lagares’ throw home to attempt to catch Miguel Sanó went far off the mark, and Suzuki misfired to third to try to get Gordon, who raced in for the lead.
As he warmed up, starter Alex Cobb had a 4-0 lead after two innings and a 4-2 lead in the sixth, but he was removed before the game began due to a blister on his right index finger. In that inning, Gordon’s RBI single against Steve Cishek pulled the Twins within one run.
After Juan Minaya’s perfect eighth, Taylor Rogers earned his ninth save with a shutout ninth for the Twins (1-0).
For the Angels, Jack Mayfield hit a two-run homer and made a diving stop at third base to start a crucial double play in the fifth inning, while Suzuki blasted a two-run shot against one of his four previous clubs. In 2014, the Twins were the only club with which he appeared in an All-Star game. He came in after José Iglesias’ RBI single in the first inning in a three-run first inning against Twins starter J.A. Happ (5-6), who went six innings.
NO-TANI
After a good first month with the Twins, Happ has been susceptible, but the 38-year-old has been particularly difficult on left-handed pitchers this season. By the end of the night, they had only allowed three extra-base hits in 67 plate appearances.
That was all the arithmetic Angels manager Joe Maddon needed to justify sitting his two healthy All-Stars, designated hitter Shohei Ohtani and first baseman Jared Walsh.
Before the game, Maddon joked, “They’re not breaking Cal’s record,” referring to Cal Ripken Jr.’s all-time record for consecutive games played.
Ohtani, who leads the big leagues in home runs, was 0 for 4 with three strikeouts on Thursday, and is now 4 for 24 with one home run and 14 strikeouts since the All-Star break. He has played in 90 of the team’s 96 games as a batter.

HEY, ROOK
OF The Twins summoned Brent Rooker from Triple-A St. Paul to replace Nelson Cruz, who was traded to Tampa Bay. Rooker is tied for the Triple-A lead with 19 home runs. Cruz’s regular DH position was taken by Rooker.
Manager Rocco Baldelli said, “The lineup is going to look a little different every day, so he may find himself out there against lefties and righties as well.”
ROOM FOR TRAINEES
CF Angels Mike Trout (strained right calf), who has not played since May 17, has not yet been cleared for a rehab assignment. “It’s not a good idea to rush anything like this. You don’t want to push it to the point where he reinjures it and the problem becomes chronic,” Maddon added.
OF/1B for the Twins Alex Kirilloff had surgery to repair a ruptured right wrist ligament, kicking off a two-month rehabilitation period. He is unlikely to play in the big leagues again this season.
Baldelli said, “We do want him to have a complete, healthy offseason, and that’s the objective so he can go into spring training at full speed.”
