Games Inbox: Is God Of War on PS4 a bad idea?

God of War on PlayStation 4 is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year. It’s a big budget third person action game produced by the makers of the famous God of War series, with the new game featuring a new protagonist, Kratos, who is a father of a young son named Atreus. This is the first God of War game to come to a home console. The game is set to release on April 20th and will be available on the PS4.

It’s been exactly one month since God Of War was released for the PS4, and has it lived up to the hype?

When Sony announced God of War at E3 2015, they made it clear that the importance of the God of War franchise was its ability to deliver an impeccable narrative. This year, it seems that narrative has been watered down to the point of being almost nonexistent.. (Photo: Sony) On Monday, Inbox wonders why there was never a big-budget Game of Thrones, and a reader gets an update on Panic’s Playdate console. I said months ago that Sony would do it. Traditionally, they release two per console. God Of War 1 and 2 on PlayStation 2, two on PSP (Chains Of Olympus and Ghost Of Sparta) and two on PS3 (3 and Ascension). And for the people who are worried about the PS5 version, they don’t have to be. As far as I know, games are scaled to run on the console. That means the PlayStation 4 on the Pro can do 30 frames at 1080p or 4K, probably everything the PlayStation 5 can do, plus faster load times, etc. The latest consoles are basically mini-pc’s with different specs, that’s what I mean. Bobwallet GC: People aren’t worried about the performance of the different versions, they’re worried about the basic design being hampered by the need to run on the PlayStation 4. No rush I just read your article about the writer taking offence at God Of War’s delay. I couldn’t be happier about this delay. This not only means that they have more time to make the game as good as the first one, if not better, but also that there will be more time between games. I mean, I have Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (pre-ordered and paid for), Deathloop (thanks to you), Call Of Duty (no WW2 yet), Horizon Forbidden West (will be pre-ordered as soon as possible) and God Of War (still waiting). That was a lot of games and a lot of money in six months. I’m glad they delayed it, it will give them time and I know better games will come out because of the delay. After the year we’ve been through and are still going through, I can’t believe someone wrote what they wrote. Someone who has done their job and has nothing left to do. If I could swear, I would. David GC: What do you get when you pre-order one of these games? Especially since none of them have been field tested before, let alone examined. Current situation I admit it, I’m disappointed that there are two cross-gen games for two great franchises on the PlayStation 5, Horizon Forbidden West and God Of War: Ragnarok. It was always assumed that Sony didn’t like backwards compatibility, but they were forced into it by the hype of Microsoft’s success. The PlayStation 4 didn’t have backwards compatibility, but it was very popular. So I wonder why Sony is focusing so much on this feature now. This shows that the good sales of the PlayStation 5 are due to the resellers. Sony has to admit that software sales have a low retention rate, so it wouldn’t make sense to release exclusive games for the PlayStation 5 because they would lose a lot of sales. Cross-gen play is a purely business decision, just like the way Sony’s games are now available on PC. Reminder: The PlayStation 4 never had a delivery problem when it debuted in 2013, which is why we haven’t seen any cross-gen games alongside the PlayStation 3. I’d like to ask fans what they’d rather have: the PlayStation 5 without backwards compatibility with the PlayStation 4, but with more PlayStation 5-exclusive titles, or as it is now? I prefer the way it went with the PlayStation 4, where games were not cross-gen and exclusive to the next generation. ShenYeng Apollo Crew GC: Cross-gen has nothing to do with backwards compatibility. Backwards compatibility means that the PlayStation 4 or previous game will also work on the PlayStation 5. Has this ever been in the news? Movies, TV shows, or books that haven’t made it to video games at all, or haven’t done very well, or haven’t for some reason in a long time? For example, I think a Lord of the Rings remake for PlayStation 2/Xbox with modern graphics and gameplay would have huge demand (not to mention licensing, etc). Imagine the battle in Helm’s Hollow across three generations of consoles. I can’t think of a game changing prospect that I’m more excited about. Nathan The transition to the dimension of Super Mario World is timeless. It still plays as well as it did when it came out, and if you didn’t know better, you could easily mistake it for a brand new indie game. The same can be said of many 2D games. But I would like to know what is the oldest and best 3D video game? I’d say so: Damnation. It’s still fantastically playable and looks good on most maps if you ignore the skyboxes. What’s your opinion? Chris GC: Doom is a very good choice. How about Zelda: Ocarina Of Time too? It holds up better than Super Mario 64. Price Limit Just read your price information from the character reader. It’s not just Returnal, all new PlayStation 5 games cost £70 shocking Sony. I used to buy PlayStation 4 games for £38-£42, which is a decent price, but £70 is too much. I and many of my like-minded friends online and offline will not buy games at these prices until they drop to £50 maximum. We all say the same thing. So none of us will play Returnal or other £70 games until they get cheaper. Thankfully, the Call of Duty game for the PlayStation 4 has moved to the PlayStation 5 for now. I wonder how the PlayStation 5’s sales compare to the PlayStation 4 when it comes to newly released games. I don’t think many people will spend money on a £70 game. I have the money to do it, but it’s a matter of principle, they make enough money off us (Sony/game developers) already. PlayStation 5 game awards are over! Kevin GC: The PlayStation 5’s software sales even surpassed those of the PlayStation 4 at the same stage of its existence. Panicky Update On Friday night I received an email from Panic, GC inviting me to participate in their first YouTube video showing the game update that will be released on Tuesday the 8th. June. Honestly, I had completely forgotten about it since I heard the news about this little wearable device in 2019. Panic said that the price of the game will be $179, that the built-in memory has been doubled to 4GB, and that the first season now includes twice as many games, from 12 to 24. I’m not sure I care about Playdate anymore, but it’s still worth checking out what Panic has to offer in this unusual portable device. At this point I’m definitely considering it, but who knows, maybe the risk is worth it. And if I pull the trigger, I’ll probably get it on the official release day. JAH

Uncertain gen For me, Sony’s stance on cross-gen has been inconsistent and a bit vague. They emphasized their belief in the generation model and said they would continue to support the PlayStation 4 for years to come. The crossover in the middle is what causes the confusion, and ultimately it’s something I understand, but some early adopters get frustrated every time another first-person game makes the switch to gen. Sony’s generational mentality clashes with Microsoft’s opposite philosophy for the next generation, which in the early years didn’t release titles exclusive to the Xbox X/S series, leading to a bad reaction. The failed reveal of Halo Infinite was largely due to Microsoft’s cross-gen approach. Perhaps Sony wanted to take another shot at Microsoft, as it did with the PlayStation 4 and the classic game sharing video. However, Microsoft is not to blame. Before Microsoft bought Zenimax Media, Starfield was only announced as a next-gen game. I don’t think Microsoft has officially announced what formats will be available after purchase. Who knows, maybe Starfield will become the first major exclusive first-person game of the next generation in 2022. We don’t know when this period without exclusive next-gen titles will end. Both companies therefore appear to be in a similar position with respect to Cross-Gen, which makes sense given that a long period of Cross-Gen has often been predicted for different reasons. I wouldn’t sell my console (I have an Xbox X series) because of all that has been said or done, although both consoles already have a lot of great things to offer, with Sony having the most to offer. I think this is another example of not believing the marketing and not buying until exactly what you want is on store shelves or in digital stores. Simundo Inbox te-rans Reading the article about the Taito mini-console, I was reminded of Taito Legends on the PlayStation 2. This is an excellent compilation that I bought mainly for the history of New Zealand. It would be great if Taito released it on the PlayStation Store. Tony-1975 Just a quick note to say that the PC Engine Mini currently costs £53.52 on Amazon! Before that it was 85 pounds and then 65 pounds. Andrew J. GC: Unfortunately, that probably means it’s not selling well, but we reiterate that it’s our favorite mini-console. OPINION: There will be no Hot Topic this week because E3 is this weekend.
